  • What is domestic violence?
    • DV is when people in intimate personal relationships use abusive behaviour to control and hurt their partners. An intimate relationship can be between people who are married, living together, dating, separated or divorced.
    • Domestic violence comes in many forms – it can be physical, sexual, emotional or financial. It can happen in any family and affects women and men of all ages, cultures, income levels, religions, professions and abilities.
  • Who does the TCC provide help to?
    • All adult people and their children who are, or have, experienced domestic violence and are in need of shelter, counseling or support services.
  • Is my call private and confidential?
    • Yes, Thompson Crisis Centre does not subscribe to call display and every care is taken to preserve the privacy of our clients.
  • What are the TCC’s hours of operation?
    • Help is available 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365 days of the year through the Crisis Line at 778-7273 or toll-free at 1-800-442-0613. The counselor is able to make assessments, provide safety planning, referral and counseling/support services over the phone. Emergency shelter is provided as required.
  • Do I have to stay in the shelter to access counseling services?
    • No, non-residential and outreach counseling services are provided. There is a satellite office at the Clinic that has a counselor on duty on Wednesdays and Fridays, 10:00 a.m. – noon and 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. You may walk in or make an appointment at 204.677.1781 and at the YWCA on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. in the Women's Resource Centre.

  • What other programs does the TCC offer?
    • TCC provides Children’s Counseling, follow-up and transitional programming. To work towards the eradication of violence, we commit to prevention through public education and awareness to children, youth and adults.
